The Royal Livingstone Express offers a 5* fine dinning experience aboard a steam train that takes you to the Victoria Falls Bridge and back. The train departs every Wednesday and Saturday at 4.30/5pm and returns around 9.30pm. Before dinner is served the train will stop on the Victoria Falls bridge in time for sunset over the Falls where the spray will refract the light of the setting sun providing incredible photo opportunities and quiet contemplation.
The return journey from the bridge is when guests take their seats in the Chesterfield or Wembley dining car for an exquisite 3 course dinner before arriving back at the station in Livingstone.
The train will run with with a minimum number of two guests and a maximum capacity of ninety two guests. The train can also be chartered on any day of the week for Groups of 30 or more.
There are two steam engines in operation:
Loco 156, a 10th Class built in 1922. It was originally used on the Mulobezi Line to pull logging carriages from the forests in Mulobezi to the railhead in Livingstone. It has been restored several times over the years with David Sheppard being the first to restore it and Bushtracks Africa, the current operator, in later years.
Loco 204, a 12th Class locomotive built in 1924. The loco was fully refurbished by Bushtracks Africa in 2008 and currently pulls the train alternatively with Locomotive 156.
