Edwin comes for a family of 11 and as the first born, he has had responsibility for looking after his late sister’s children. His work as an artist started when he was very young with his uncle training him on how to carve wood. He prefers working in Iron wood because it is easy to carve and it is one of the strong woods. He sells he work at Mukuni Victoria Falls curio market. More recently he had been taking his sculptures to South Africa but this has stopped due to Covid-19. His work has enabled Edwin to take his five children to school and he has also built a house for his family.“Like others in the Mukuni village, I am finding it more difficult to get the trees that I need close to my home and now I have to walk long distance to access good woods.” He expects to benefit more from this project because he will receive a lump sum of money all at once so that he can buy cows for farming. He feels happy that his work has been erected at Civic Centre because it’s also part of marketing his work.“I decided to enter the competition with a Giraffe because it is one of my favorite animals. The giraffe among many of the animals found in the parks brings more attraction to tourists; it is liked by most tourists because of its physical appearance and friendly nature and does not have any effect to human life.” Giraffes are found in almost every park in Zambia and are peaceful and humble giants among the animals.“My work will be marketable for having been erected at the Civic Centre and I feel proud of myself and am really grateful for this great opportunity”
