Tawanda became a wood artist after his uncle got out of jail and he started teaching him about carving. He has worked as a sculptor for than 20 years now and has always worked in wood such as Mukwa because its strong and it shines well once it is nicely polished. He sells his work at Mukuni Victoria Falls curio market and sometimes in Lusaka at markets at month-end. His family of 2 children depend on his work to keep them.
“Nowadays some things have changed as I have a challenge to find wood because of walking long distances like 20k/m to the place called (Muchinga) sub – village of Mukuni.”
He says that this project is a great highlight for him as it will boost his own business, and he feels very grateful that his work is erected at the Civic Centre.
