In practice everything we hold about you can be viewed and amended in your dashboard on our website. You can also delete your account from the dashboard. Please see section F-2.2 about the removal of your posts and comments.
L. Cookies
Our website uses cookies. A cookie is a file containing an identifier (a string of letters and numbers) that is sent by a web server to a web browser and is stored by the browser. The identifier is then sent back to the server each time the browser requests a page from the server. Cookies may be either “persistent” cookies or “session” cookies: a persistent cookie will be stored by a web browser and will remain valid until its set expiry date, unless deleted by the user before the expiry date; a session cookie, on the other hand, will expire at the end of the user session, when the web browser is closed. Cookies do not typically contain any information that personally identifies a user, but personal information that we store about you may be linked to the information stored in and obtained from cookies. We use session cookies for users who are not logged in and persistent cookies for users signed into their account.
The names of the cookies that we use on our website, and the purposes for which they are used, are set out below:
- we use Google Analytics and Adwords on our website to recognise a computer when a user visits the website, track users as they navigate the website, improve the website’s usability, analyse the use of the website and target advertisements which may be of particular interest to specific users;
- we use a cookie to instruct your web browser to remember your username and password when you sign into our website. The cookie also allows your browser to keep you signed in for a period of one month. This cookie does not track your navigation through the site or send any information to third parties.
Most browsers allow you to refuse to accept cookies—for example:
- in Internet Explorer (version 10) you can block cookies using the cookie handling override settings available by clicking “Tools,” “Internet Options,” “Privacy,” and then “Advanced”;
- in Firefox (version 24) you can block all cookies by clicking “Tools,” “Options,” “Privacy,” selecting “Use custom settings for history” from the drop-down menu, and un-ticking “Accept cookies from sites”; and
- in Chrome (version 29), you can block all cookies by accessing the “Customise and control” menu, and clicking “Settings,” “Show advanced settings,” and “Content settings,” and then selecting “Block sites from setting any data” under the “Cookies” heading.
Blocking all cookies will have a negative impact upon the usability of many websites. If you block cookies, you will not be able to use all the features on our website.
You can delete cookies already stored on your computer—for example:
- in Internet Explorer (version 10), you must manually delete cookie files (you can find instructions for doing so at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/278835 );
- in Firefox (version 24), you can delete cookies by clicking “Tools,” “Options,” and “Privacy”, then selecting “Use custom settings for history”, clicking “Show Cookies,” and then clicking “Remove All Cookies”; and
- in Chrome (version 29), you can delete all cookies by accessing the “Customise and control” menu, and clicking “Settings,” “Show advanced settings,” and “Clear browsing data,” and then selecting “Delete cookies and other site and plug-in data” before clicking “Clear browsing data.”
Deleting cookies will have a negative impact on the usability of many websites.
M. Location Data
Our mobile apps will request your location data in order to provide certain services within the app such as the “Near Me" functionality. We do not track your location data or store it anywhere on our servers. When you install the app you will be asked if the app can access your location. If you deny access then the “Near Me" function will not work. The rest of the app will work fine.
N. App permissions
If you are using our mobile app, the app requests permission to use your camera and access your photos. This is so that you can utilise the app and upload images from your camera and/or photo album. One of the main reasons to do this would be to add your profile picture if you choose to do so. In no way do we have access to your phone, nor do we install anything on your phone other than the app itself and the functionality required to run the app. You will be asked by the app to provide permission to access any areas of your phone that require native functionality. You are free to decline that permission but it may hinder some functionality of the app itself. You should still be able to use the core functions of the app however.
O. How can you contact us
If you have any questions about our privacy practices, you have any concerns about how we have been managing your personal information, please contact us via email at info@govicfalls.com.
